When D’Angelo Russell canceled his scheduled workout last week, there were rumors abound. Did the Lakers say they were taking him at #2? Did he just decide he didn’t want to have anything to do with the Sixers? Did he have the runs? It looks like the Knicks may have poisoned him. But Russell rescheduled his workout, and apparently he killed it.

According to Keith Pompey, the Sixers worked out (and talked to) Russell over the last few days, following the time they spent with Emmanuel Mudiay. “He said he killed it,” a source close to Russell told Keith Pompey of the workout. “He was talking about how excited he was about Philly.” This, of course, is on the heels of many mock drafts shifting the Sixers’ consensus pick from Russell to Kristaps Porzingis. But according to Pompey, “the Sixers would love to draft Russell if he’s still available at pick No. 3.” Over the next week, things will shift, mock drafts will be torn up and thrown out, and teams will panic. A year ago today, ESPN mocked the Sixers to get both Andrew Wiggins and Julius Randle. But it’s not likely to go how last year went, when a must-take risk fell to Sam Hinkie at three. This year, he’ll have only himself to rely on when making the Sixers’ top pick. It’s going to be interesting.
