The Sixers are the only team doing anything today. The Eagles and Flyers are deep in their respective offseasons, the Eagles are on a break, and the Phillies just have to watch a professional loudmouth represent them on the national level. But the Sixers play the Knicks in Summer League action at 5:30PM today, on NBATV and the NBA Game Time app, and have been playing Summer League ball for the past week-plus. So there might not be a ton going on, but here are some things you’ve been missing if you haven’t been paying attention to the Summer Sixers.

1) Obviously, all eyes are on rookie Jahlil Okafor in Summer League. If you look at his Summer League stats on the NBA’s website, you’ll be amazed:

Now, that may look weird to you. Maybe because 14 and 22 don’t equal 19.3. Or maybe it’s because you can’t average 62 minutes per game. His real numbers look like this, over four games in Vegas: 15.3 ppg, 9 rpg (3.5 offensive), 1 bpg, 61.4% FG, 44% FT. That free throw number is going to have to come wayyyy up, but there’s certainly some real excitement for a teenager who can do this:

He’s not doing these moves against consistently real NBA talent, but he’s got a nose for escaping double and triple teams. And that’s good.

Joel Embiid, after it was announced that he’ll miss next season and have surgery shortly, showed up in Las Vegas to watch and root for the Summer Sixers. It’s something that, according to Ric Bucher, the Sixers did not expect.

4) There are a lot of people playing in this Summer League who are unlikely to make the roster. Rookie Richaun Holmes – injured but likely back in time for training camp – will probably take the last available roster spot. Summer League stalwart Arsalan Kazemi has been making hustle plays and taking charges at an alarming rate. Pierre “Pappy Jack” Jackson – who has been a Sixer, officially and unofficially, at least three separate times – has been knocking down the three-ball. Florida’s Scott Wilbekin has shown there is no limit to his range. It’s almost enough to wish the D-League worked more like a Triple-A affiliate, where players could be developed, watched, and brought up when needed.

5) And finally, perhaps the best part of the Sixers Summer League so far, FURKAN THREES:
