Pompey

According to Keith Pompey, Joel Embiid is likely to miss the entire 2015-2016 season and will undergo a second surgery on his foot in the near future. According to Pompey’s source:

““I would say there’s a great possibility that Embiid won’t play next year. Just think how long they sat him when they thought he was healthy.”

A separate source told Pompey that “the Sixers are planning as if Embiid won’t play this season,” and another said “the franchise is concerned that this setback could be career-threatening.” Embiid will have surgery they said, it’s just a decision of where and when.

At this point, after having your so-called centerpiece of the future go ahead and miss two entire seasons because of a recurring big-man foot injury, it might be time to seriously start considering Embiid a bust and structure your team without him in mind. How long can you wait on a player who is supposedly franchise changing but cannot get healthy enough to play one game. I told myself (and anyone within person earshot) recently that if Embiid misses this season, it’s time to essentially cut ties with him. I don’t think the Sixers would do that – the Hinkie haters would gloat harder than they even are now – but it might be the right thing to do.
