SEPTA’s #PopePass Site Crashes Because SEPTA Can Screw Up Just About Anything

The Pope is coming to Philly in September. It’s already helped structure the Eagles’ schedule, caused everyone and their mother talk about putting their place on AirBnB, and made a story out of #PopeFence. Today, SEPTA began selling their papal visit-specific #PopePass. For about six minutes.
The first thing people bring up when talking about the Pope’s visit is how many people are coming. Yet, somehow (because it’s SEPTA), SEPTA didn’t realize how much traffic would be driven towards the Pope Pass purchasing page. According to Philly.com, “SEPTA workers had tested sales of 1700 per second over the weekend, [SEPTA spokeswoman Jerri] Williams said, but the real-life volume on Monday ‘was much higher than we anticipated.'” Realizing that, as the church teaches, it was best to just give up, SEPTA preemptively pulled the pope passes from the pope pass purchasing page. Tomorrow, SEPTA will announce when the page will rise again. Three days should be enough.
