Sixers Acquire Nik Stauskas, Others in Salary Dump Trade

stauskas

BEFORE YOU PANIC: If Woj meant Saric, he probably would’ve said Saric.

According to super-insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sixers have acquired Kyle Scott look-alike Nik Stauskas, Carl Landry, and Jason Thompson from the Kings in exchange for overseas players (probably Micic, Kazemi, or a couple of the dudes they drafted this year). The Sixers reportedly wanted Stauskas — which may mean a buyout for Landry and Thompson — and the Kings are trying to dump salary to make a run at Rajon Rondo, Monta Ellis, and/or Wes Matthews.

We’ll have more on this in the morning.

UPDATE: Also a pick?

UPDATE 2: According to Zach Lowe, “Sixers will receive a protected 1st-round pick from the Kings, and swap rights w/ Sacto in the 1st round of two other drafts, sources say.” If they still didn’t give up Saric in this deal, it’s remarkable.

UPDATE 3: According to Woj, the deal shakes out like this:

“The Kings traded forwards Carl Landry and Jason Thompson and 2014 No. 8 overall draft pick Nik Stauskas to the 76ers for the rights to overseas players and a future second-round draft pick, sources said.”

Saric’s name has still not been mentioned, so I assume he’s safe.

UPDATE 4: DARIO IS SAFE.

UPDATE 5: There’s some stuff involving Chicago, but this is the simplest breakdown of the picks exchanged:

    1. Hinkie wasn’t going to let Hextall hold the GM spotlight in this city for long. He had to take it back. Sam is such a Philly GM spotlight whore.

  1. Love it. Guy was drafted on his potential to be a shooter and God knows the Sixers need one.

  2. Finally got a white guy who can make a three…..and he’s actually athletic!!!

  3. Staukas on one side, Covington on the other, whichever defender drops to double Jahlil gets the ball for the three with Noel trying to board, and Joel leads the second five that rotates in Kentucky style (puts glass of Kool aid aside)…maybe Hinkie does know what he’s doing!

  4. If i wanted a white guy bball player on the sixers I would have went to the courts in manayunk and recruited one!

    Sam Hinkie, you got aids!

  5. This trade is so lopsided that it might be cause for the commissioner to step in, lol.

  6. Jody Mac is the dumbest sports host i’ve ever heard, dude is salty as fuck right now trying to say the sixers lost this trade

Somebody pull Hinkie off Divac, It’s getting ugly!!!!!

    1. My dad was GM of the shitty Mets so i know what I’m talking about even though i talk like i have marbles in my mouth.

    2. Jody Mac’s dad traded Tom Seaver in his prime to the Reds and got nothing in return.

    3. Jody’s last cigarette butt has more intelligence than me and Jason HowOnEarthDoYouPronounceMyLastName combined. I hope Jody (and Josh, the king of Philly sports talk) puts in a good word for me after 97.5 drops sports talk as a format; We’ll need the work… Especially that suck-up producer of mine. He’s got, like, 19 kids and knows absolutely nothing about hockey. He’s in bad shape.

  7. Sixers General manager Sam Hinkie can finally say he fleeced another gm.Nik Stauskas is the second coming of Danny Ainge.

  8. This is exhibit A of which type of team do you want in the NBA? The Kings are trying to build a team that is good enough to make the playoffs and be competitive, only to never get to the top of the mountain because they don’t have enough great players. They are supposedly going after Monta Ellis and Rondo to compliment Cousins, which will make a nice team. But they will NEVER win a Championship with that roster.

The Sixers and Hinkie are trying to build a Championship team, and though I don’t agree with everything that he has done at GM, I still believe he isn’t trying to do what the Kings are doing in building a good/very good team that will have a ceiling.

If you just take a step back we have Okafor, Noel, Embiid, Saric, Stauskas, a boat load of cap room and multiple 1st round picks for the next 2-3 years. This will all come together one year in the future, and then people are going to forget the last few years. Just remember Golden State drafted Steph Curry in 2009, and didn’t win a title til 2015, so it took them 6 years! We are only on year #3 with Hinkie.

  9. Good trade for the Sixers. It also puts to bed all the idiots who were speculating after the draft that the other GMs in the league were blackballing Hinkie because they didn’t like his style.

Hinkie has a plan. Let him take this thing to the finish.

  10. Nice trade. Any info on the protections of the picks / swaps?

You have to also applaud ownership for eating so much salary. This is like the 3rd time they’ve traded for players simply to buy out contracts.

    1. Well to be fair they are waaaaaaaaaaaaay under the cap so don’t go praising them too much.

    2. Meh, they have to anyway. There’s a salary floor in the NBA and the Sixers would be under it.

    1. Here’s what I don’t get about Bob. He’s obviously a terrible caller that doesn’t bring much to the table. Are there no other callers at that time so Martinez just puts him through in slow times or do Mikey and Martinez think that listeners actually want to hear what Bob has to say. Is he a celebrity caller at this point?

How many people call in to these sports talk stations. Kyle, a decent future Radio Wars post might be a bit of Inside baseball on the sports talk radio biz, a little bit of “how the sausage is made” as it were.

  11. Who says 2nd round picks get you nothing? ASSETS!! Sorry for fleecing you, Vlady

  12. Now I’m not the only Russian who got beat up by a little dude from Philly….whew

  13. Hello Sam Hinkie – I am hte producer for the Tony Bruno & Josh Innes Show. Can you hop on for a few minutes?

    Thanks.

  14. “Oh great, the Sixers just got an unathletic/spot shooter/ can’t defend white boy. Maybe I’ll bring back my daily NBA ‘White Boy Report’ from the old WIP show with Fredericks”
