F it. I’m sold. If Chip’s mad, I’m mad.

Chip Kelly spoke to reporters today, or, more accurately, took a verbal blowtorch to recent comments made by NFL official czar Dean Blandino that the Terrell Suggs hit on Sam Bradford was legal.

Blandino said that on zone read plays – where the quarterback has an option to keep the ball (super effective in Madden by the way) – quarterbacks are fair game until they are no longer in running position or have reestablished themselves as a passer. But, here’s the thing: Chip says the Eagles weren’t running a zone read play when Bradford got hit. In fact, they run very few of them:

“Not every shotgun run is a zone read play.”

“Sam wasn’t going anywhere. I mean if you watched him he handed the ball off, so…”

“I thought the interpretation (roughing the passer) on the field was correct.”

“We don’t run it more than Seattle, we don’t run it more than San Francisco. We don’t run it as much as you guys think we do.”

“[Blandino] said it was a read option play. It wasn’t a read option play. I know our quarterbacks can be hit on a read option play. But not every run we have is a read option run.”

“Are they gonna hit every quarterback in the league when they handoff in the shotgun? That’s up to the league.”

Wow, and we just got insight into what it’s like to be in a romantic relationship with Chip. Passive aggressiveness off the charts. “No, hunny, it’s fine that there’s not dinner waiting for me when I get home late. You’re right– I don’t want to have to take a morning shit when I wake up at 4 a.m. before riding my bike to work to be the most progressive coach in NFL history. I’ll just have some Goldfish and call it another sexless night.”

Or, at least that’s what I imagine it’s like.

Here’s Chip talking about it:
