Report: Phillies Will Name Matt Klentak their New GM

According to Nick Cafardo, the Phillies are set on Matt Klentak as their new general manager. Cool. So, who is he?

Klentak was Andy MacPhail’s “protegé with the Baltimore Orioles, becoming the team’s director of baseball operations in 2008 at the age of only 27.” He played college baseball for four years at Dartmouth before graduating with a degree in economics. He worked in the league’s 2006 CBA – so expect him to have a pretty good grasp of how all of that stuff works, the anti-Ruben in that way. He’s spent the last few years as the assistant GM with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

We’ll update here when it’s official, and check out a poorly filmed interview with Klentak from 2011 after the jump.

  1. The “new” 97.5 The Fanatic with the phoney morning show. Is it a violation to grow up in South Jersey and act like you’re from South Philly?

  2. Who cares? the only people that watch baseball are f@gs like Bob.

    1. Yea and the 75 million people that watched last nights alcs game… That’s double the amount of people that watched last years super bowl. The numbers don’t lie sweetie. Baseball is and always will be the most popular sport.

  3. Now that I burnt down the Phillies organization from the inside, I’m off to be the first base coach in Boston with the same goal. Wish me luck!
