For all of the shit we all talked on Ruben Amaro – most of it well-deserved – his last year here was actually a good one. Whether that was a last-ditch effort to save his job, or Andy MacPhail working over him, the Phillies ended up adding four of their now top-six prospects in the last year.

J.P. Crawford is still ranked number one, but Baseball America ranks the rest of them like this:

  1. J.P. Crawford
  2. Nick Williams (acquired from Rangers in Cole Hamels trade)
  3. Jake Thompson  (acquired from Rangers in Cole Hamels trade)
  4. Andrew Knapp
  5. Jorge Alfaro  (acquired from Rangers in Cole Hamels trade)
  6. Cornelius Randolph (drafted #10 overall)
  7. Franklyn Kilome
  8. Roman Quinn
  9. Adonis Medina
  10. Carlos Tocci

It might have taken forever, but in his last breaths as Phillies GM, Ruben (or a Middleton/Gillick/MacPhail/Ruben combo) finally did something right. And it earned him the glory of being an out of shape old man who has to wear a uniform for his job.
