Blackhawks star Patrick Kane will not face rape charges after a three-month investigation into one of the National Hockey League’s most popular players, prosecutors in western New York announced Thursday.
The decision from the Erie County district attorney’s office comes about a week after Kane’s accuser told prosecutors that she no longer wanted to pursue a criminal case against him. Sources told the Tribune the 21-year-old college student had signed a rare affidavit declining prosecution, citing the emotional toll the investigation had taken on her and her family.
Well there’s a shocker. The case against Kane took a turn for the worse when DNA evidence was in his favor (read: not his semen) and after the alleged victim’s mother tried to pull off a hoax about evidence being tampered with which was ultimately disproved. Still, the victim has hired a personal injury attorney, which means a lawsuit is probably forthcoming.
Patrick Kane hasn’t missed a game this season.
