The Body Language of Losing

Jahlil Okafor played another solid game– 19 and 11 with 2 blocks. The Sixers fought the Mavericks, but lost a close one. Of course they lost. They’re designed to lose. But it takes its toll.

I’ll submit this GIF as Exhibit J when it proves difficult to sign big-name free agents. This is literally the last place in basketball good players want to be right now.

It’s easy to understand why a guy like Okafor, who has always been the best player on the floor and on the best teams his whole life, is having a hard time dealing with failure like this. We have to remember, the guy is 19 years old. It’s hard to believe because of how advanced his game is, but he’s a kid. He’ll work through his struggles and as the season goes on the Sixers will start to play better and win 15-20 games. Grind it out this year, and then things change, because the 2016 draft is loaded and the Sixers really start forming the team. Ben Simmons and Jamaal Murray, dream about it.

And Jahlil may leave at the end of his contract, but he should also recognize that the playing for the Sixers right now gives him a unique opportunity where he get a lot of minutes every game and is allowed to develop his game at the NBA level without much fear of losing playing time as a rookie. If Okafor was in LA, he ‘d be just another guy trying to score with Kobe, Randle, Clarkson, Young, Lou Williams, etc.

Okafer is already counting down the days until he is out of that hell hole. He should rip the Organization to get out faster.

Okafor will be fine, but the one I’m worried about is Nik Stauskas.

After having a good game against Cleveland 2 weeks ago, it’s been downhill 4 Stauskas ever since.

Mile Missanelli told everyone Stauskas couldn’t play and people ripped him for it, which means a lot of the Stauskas fanboys have egg on their face.

I was on board at first with tanking, etc but now I simply do not understand the process. MKW, who was supposed to be a building piece and was rookie of the year is traded. Now we have Okafor who will be a piece but who knows his future honestly. Even if they do keep him, losing every game and getting in terrible habits of half assing it because they’re set up to lose no matter what he does, will only destroy his growth as a player both mentally and diminish his skill.

i get where you’re coming from with this but I wouldn’t look too far into a GIF of him moping down the tunnel after a loss, this is probably the first time in his entire life he’s been on a losing team like this. especially last night was a tough loss because they had a chance to win it, but he fouled out. all i’m saying is that if it were flipped and the Lakers had drafted Okafor, he wouldn’t be too happy out there either. at least he gets to be the focal point of the offense here and develop his game against quality NBA players night in and night out.
i agree signing good free agents is definitely out of the question because i would imagine agents are blackballing the Sixers due to viewing players as assets and providing no long term stability/winning atmosphere for their clients. that’s why this upcoming draft will be so important, it’s make or break they have to get at least 3/4 quality players out of it.

Why should Okafor give a shit about losing when the entire ownership/management structure wants to lose.
