Jonathan Papelbon Wastes No-Trade Spot on Phillies
A new baseball year is slowly beginning around the league, and as is tradition, Jonathan Papelbon is at the center of trade rumors. He’s good at throwing a baseball anywhere from one to thirty times in every third game or so, but he’s a goddamn psychopath who chokes MVPs. Not exactly a great “clubhouse guy.” So, of course, the Nationals are ready to move him. But Paps has his own say in a bit of the matter, and he has 17 teams on his no-trade list. He’s really wasting a spot with one of them though.
According to SB Nation, Papelbon can block a trade to any of the following teams: Diamondbacks, Orioles, Indians, Rockies, White Sox, Tigers, Dodgers, Marlins, Brewers, Twins, Yankees, A’s, Pirates, Giants, Rangers, Blue Jays, and Phillies. Phillies. Phillies? Does Pap really think he needs to put the Phils on there? They’d rather re-hire Ruben Amaro as manager/GM/first base coach/occasional closer than bring Papelbon back, let alone actually give something up for him.
Jonny, I get it. You really don’t want to come back here. It’s cool, we don’t want you back either. But when you end up wherever you end up, and you’re back in this spot in another year because you elbowed the ace pitcher in the jaw or something, just think about how you could have had that team on your list instead. Sure, you’ve got seventeen spots, but use them wisely.
