UPDATE 2: Flyers fans are fucking incredible. Look at this:
I’ve watched this six times now and I see no reasonable way to defend the hit. If it were a Penguin, we’d be LOSING OUR SHIT. What’s more, to Brett’s argument that Farnham embellished it– have you ever been skating (at a reasonable speed) and been knocked off your feet unexpectedly? Your body does this. It twists. It dangles. It’s basic physics. Hell, in a roller hockey league I broke my wrist when I got punched in the face. You read that right– I got punched in the face and broke my wrist. It was a sucker punch and I didn’t see it coming. I was wearing a mask, so my head snapped back so far that my feet kicked out, my body twisted, and I landed on my wrist. Was it highly embarrassing and did I skate to the penalty box (somehow I got a roughing call on the play) with a dangling wrist to save face? I did. But is it possible to get sent flying in the air like Charlie Brown when you’re caught off-guard by a blow near the head while on skates? Yes. Yes, it is. Here’s proof:
My wrist in 2006– the year my left hand attained unexpected greatness.
