Oldheads React to Hinkie's Manifesto
Sam Hinkie has left the Sixers in a pile of rubble, awaiting the arrival of Lil’ Bryan to come work for his daddy Jerry Colangelo – undoubtedly the “inside source” of any and all beat writers. He left a 13-page explainer/manifesto/thesis in his wake, and as you probably figured the old heads don’t love it. Here’s Larry Brown on SportsCenter explaining analytics and then saying those aren’t analytics:
Les Bowen was particularly annoyed:
I don’t think Martin Luther needed that many words to split from the Vatican RT @DMonroe524: @LesBowen Its a manifesto

@PhilaPhans Also liked part where he patted himself on back 4 coming up w/Robert Covington, Jerami Grant, etc. Roster reflected his genius.

And Howard Eskin was oddly measured. Here’s his hottest take:
Sam Hinkie is really strange and out of touch w fans. #Sixers https://t.co/iwOF9nmkqu

Keith Pompey wrote about Hinkie’s supposed lack of maturity that lead him to step down – because maturity means accepting being pushed aside with grace, apparently:
“But the way it went down just [was] an indication of his maturity.”
Hinkie was with the team and members of the organization for three hours Wednesday. It was a part of the team photo. Then he met with managing owners Josh Harris and David Blitzer for an hour and a half.
Sources said that Hinkie appeared to be in good spirits and even joked with someone before taking the team picture. But that evening, he sent a 13-page resignation letter to the Sixers’ equity partners. Hinkie then leaked his resignation and resignation letter to ESPN, according to a source.
So Hinkie leak = bad, Colangelo leak = good. Got it. Here’s a sourcelangelo talking some bullshit:
#NBA source: #Sixers were planning to announce Sam Hinkie would be in charge of analytics after season & bring in basketball person.

John Smallwood threw his two 1901 pennies into the mix as well:
That’s a bunch of double-talk mumbo jumbo designed to deflect attention from the mess he made.
Hinkie chose not to address the criticism because he had no logical excuses for how intentionally trying to field the worst team imaginable in an attempt to get luckier in the NBA draft lottery was a sound strategy for rebuilding a franchise.
And the ultimate old head (though at least one you’d like to have a drink with) Tony Bruno:

The takes are far from over. Neither Kyle nor I can see if Marcus Hayes has said anything because he’s blocked us both, but that’s probably better for our sanity.
