Honestly sounds like a TNT drama that would be canceled after one season.

But, predictably, DA Seth Williams held a press conference today – not like there’s anything else going on to completely distract from this news – to announce, apprehensively, that there was not enough evidence to bring charges against… anybody… in the LeSean McCoy fight at recess. There are three popular versions, according to sources and Twitter snark, as to why this is the case:

  1. There wasn’t enough evidence.
  2. Seth Williams is buddy-buddy with Eagles players and McCoy himself.
  3. The off-duty officers were hardly innocent here and, rather than shed light on the situation, it’s best to just let things go.

It’s possible there’s something to all three of those. But one source involved in the investigation says that police are positively outraged at Williams’ handling of the case, something stated quite clearly in this statement from John McNesby, the head of the Philly FOP:

God I love this city. Only in Philly (and maybe Chicago… yeah, probably Chicago) do you get this sort of raw, vicious public statement from law enforcement. We’re big enough to host the Democratic National Convention (and the Pope), but still provincial enough to accuse the DA of favoritism in the name of football season tickets. And, well, let’s be honest, there’s probably something to that:

This might not be the end of it, though. The police are not happy, and I’d bet there will be a few leaks coming pertaining to the investigation.
