UPDATE: Joey Votto Is Such a Prick That He Somehow Made Mike Schmidt Seem like a Nice Guy

Just an unprecedented level of dickheadedness from Joey Votto, who was 0-for-the-series against the Phils. Here he is taking a Cesar Hernandez foul ball and straight-up trolling the fans sitting along the first base line:

Votto – that once-great baseball player who hasn’t gotten a hit in the last four games – got a kick out of it:

And just in case that wasn’t unnecessary enough, here he is just brutalizing a kid sitting behind the Reds’ dugout:

Mind-boggling.

In fact, Votto is such a prick, that he somehow made Mike Schmidt out to be a nice guy. Later in the game, Ben Davis hand-delivered a baseball signed by Schmidt to the kid shunned by Votto. I mean, sure, Schmidt wouldn’t dare deliver it himself… but we’ll take what we can get:

UPDATE: Votto talked about it after the game. From Philly.com:

“Too bad,” he told reporters.

Votto said he was not faking out the kids that waited by the dugout, but instead an adult that was heckling him. Votto held the ball in the air, faked the throw two times, and then walked down the dugout steps and laughed.

“I was just having fun out there. They give you a hard time during the game, and that’s my way of giving them a hard time back,” Votto said. “Really, it’s just me playing around. I was telling, I think it was Galvis, just how much fun I have coming here because it’s such an energized bunch and they get on you if you’re not doing your job. They get on you if you’re on the other team, if you’re giving them a hard time. It’s a really fun group here.”

Votto should be the next guy who gets punched in the head.
