If you believe the narrative of who was truly in power, Jerry Colangelo made two immediate moves when he was hired by the Sixers: He traded for Ish Smith and hired Mike D’Antoni as associate head coach. Those were the only moves – basketball wise, not “hire my son” wise – that Papa Jerry made in his Sixers tenure, and both men could be right out the door again.

According to Woj, the Rockets are getting ready to make Mike D’Antoni an offer to become their new head coach, and he’s not really in a position to turn them down:

It’s a job Charles Barkley recently compared to the Captain of the Titanic or (worse) coach of the Kings, but D’Antoni took the Sixers job presumably to get back into the league so he could get another HC job sooner rather than later. In that way, working for the Sixers actually somehow got Mike D’Antoni a head coaching job. The times they are a’changing.
