One of my favorite subplots of the Eagles offseason is the seemingly off-message comments from coaches not named Doug Pederson about the progress being made by eventual starting quarterback Carson Wentz. You see, Doug Pederson has to toe the party line as he has been programmed to do. But his assistants, particularly offensive coordinator and Madden QB Frank Reich, have their own brains from which to wire signals to their mouth holes and, well, they’re a tad more willing to state the quite obvious– this is Carson City.

Reich speaking to Sirius, from NJ.com:

“Absolutely,” Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich said on Sirius NFL Radioabout whether or not Wentz is picking up the team’s offense better and quicker than rookie quarterbacks typically tend to. “That’s one of the reasons why we picked this guy. His aptitude is off the charts.

“I’m not sure I’ve been around a guy who has this high of an aptitude at this age. It’s really, really good. Then he has the work ethic to go along with it. He has a maturity and a class about him to understand his role and understand that he has to earn his stripes. He’s doing that and he’s doing a great job of it.”

Aptitude off the charts. Somewhere, probably just a few doors down from where QB 14 made those comments, Sam Bradford buries his head in his sleeves. Save me, Sleeves.

Three, three games until Carson Wentz replaces Sam Bradford as the starter.
