Roger Goodell Is Dumb
But for those critical of the “No Fun League” for cracking down on excessive celebrations, commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear yesterday they have no intent on easing the rules on what players can do after plays.
“The [competition] committee looks at this every year,” Goodell said, via Mark Maske of the Washington Post. “This is one of those things — I’ve been in the league 35 years. I don’t think there’s been a year where we didn’t look at this issue.
“It comes down to balancing a lot of issues, the professional standards that we want to uphold. We do believe that our players are role models and others look at that at the youth level. So that’s important for us to hold that standard up. And it’s part of being a professional. So that’s one element of it.”
This is the same league that glosses over domestic abuse and countless other player crimes and pretends to give one half of a soft, hot shit about the dangers of concussions, all while continuing to promote football as a safe and fun activity for children. And yet they’re going to get up on their high horse about players being “role models” and “professionals,” which is complete bullshit since they’re entertainers, and act like doing a dance after achieving a goal is just the worst thing on Earth. All the while, Steph Curry is an absolute hot dog and one of the biggest sports role models on the planet, because most people can separate a player celebrating on the court from the person off it, who in this case is widely considered to be a good dude. But Goodell is too much of a maniac to let that sort of thing happen.
