The Sixers are Emotionally Destroying Teams they Beat Again
Last year, when the Sixers were a much worse squad, I wrote about the teams they beat having existential crises when they were defeated. A loss to the Sixers almost cost Jeff Hornacek his job with the Suns (he eventually lost it anyway), Kings fans booed their own team, and the Timberwolves went full “what does it all mean?”. Last night, an improved Sixers team handily beat the broken New Orleans Pelicans. They aren’t taking it well:
Anthony Davis very brief tonight. Asked if this is a low point, Davis replied "Yup."

And the Pels’ subreddit took it very, very hard. Here are some snippets:
How embarrassing is this ? Seriously the sixers lost 24 straight games on the road and they come in our home court and beat us by double digits.. DOUBLE FUCKING DIGITS. Alvin Gentry and Dell Demps have to go, this is freaking horrible. Never seen such a an idiotic coach before in my life and our gm is a fucking moron too, the game plan is fucking horrible. Our season is over.
It’s over. People can blame injuries all they want, but this team can’t win. Coaching sucks. Players are a bunch of bitches apparently by the way they pout and whine on the court. We’re done.
After the game, Gentry literally said he doesn’t give a shit about his job status. I wouldn’t either, if my job sucked as much as his.
The Sixers are still building, and they’re far from one of the NBA’s great teams, but playing spoiler to the psyche of their opponents? That’s a fantastic role.
