Steve Mason’s Stadium Series Mask is Fine

We’re a very excitable fanbase. Every Sixers win gives us reason to raise our fucking felines, and put the Phillies in throwback uniforms once a year and we lose our shit. It’s just how we are, even about the smallest things. To wit: Steve Mason’s stadium series mask, shown in here a now deleted Tweet from (@dflanns):

It’s a very clean design. Nice and crisp. And it’s well painted. But it’s black. And it’s plain. Not every special occasion goalie mask needs to be lavish and overdone and busy, but this one is just fine. It’s the mask that comes default on your goalie in NHL 17.

People are freaking out over it, which is alright, because we need things to get excited about. But every time Paint Zoo puts out a new #MaseMask, Twitter breathlessly fawns all over it like it’s the second coming of Patrick Roy’s Avalanche mask:

I’m convinced Franny at PZ could draw a turd on the mask and people would say it’s his best yet. In this case, it’s black… with a Flyers logo… and Steve Mason’s name. Got it.

  • Jim has nothing against hockey, it's just not his style. February 16, 2017 at 9:47 am

    such style, Jimbo. Such style.

    • in all seriousness February 16, 2017 at 9:57 am

      Jim, Shut the fuck up.

The mask is great. Will look great with the black jerseys. Also, I hope the NHL bans all the crazy artwork on the masks. They should all be a standard mask with only the teams logo and colors. Enough of this artsy bullshit.

I will trade you Nik Stauskas and Sergio Rodriguez for $5 and pack of Newports.

        • You're in February 16, 2017 at 10:18 am

I don’t think Rodriguez would make my high school team.

        • Yes February 16, 2017 at 10:28 am

Throw in a 40 of Old E and we gravy baby.

  • Big Al from the Irish Pub in Atlantic City February 16, 2017 at 9:55 am

Who cares mason and the flyers fucking blow. G -20 lol

    • Ethan Shander aka Aytonymous February 16, 2017 at 10:16 am

I agree I’m so sick and tired of hockey fans trying to drum up interest in the Flyers as well as hockey in general.

The majority of Philadelphia sports fans care very little about hockey, so stop begging people to take interest in your little sport of hockey.

      • You're in February 16, 2017 at 10:19 am

Why do the flyers sell out every home game? And the 6ers and phillies play in front of half empty stadiums?

        • ETHAN SHANDER AKA AYTONYMOUS February 16, 2017 at 10:20 am

Because Flyer fans are losers who have nothing else to do!!!!

          • flyer rob February 16, 2017 at 10:22 am

Wow, that is the dumbest response ever. You my friend, are an idiot.

          • ETHAN SHANDER AKA AYTONYMOUS February 16, 2017 at 10:24 am

Riiiight. Give me a break pal. That’s all I need is some jerk like you giving me grief. Why don’t you go back to your moms basement.

          • Dan Griffoni February 16, 2017 at 11:37 am

Because flyers fans like to go to stadiums and scope out hot men in tight pants.

  • FACE February 16, 2017 at 10:00 am

It’s decent. Plain. Hextall’s Philly Skyline mask is still my personal favorite.

  • Shart Shartveit February 16, 2017 at 10:00 am

    I like the matte paint.

    Good move.

It won’t reflect the goal light that is going to be go off behind him every two minutes.

  • Mason's brain February 16, 2017 at 10:11 am

If the Flyers had any smarts the name on the front would read Bob

  • "Make Sixers Writing Great Again" February 16, 2017 at 10:13 am

Hey Kyle, start with your own employee. Smallwood’s “slop” is Pulitzer-worthy compared to what Jim puts out on a daily basis. Jim’s writing hasn’t improved at all since his days at The Keystone.

  • Fire hak and hex February 16, 2017 at 10:22 am

Flyers should amnesty G after the season . He’s fucking cooked

  • ETHAN SHANDER AKA AYTONYMOUS February 16, 2017 at 10:25 am

Can’t wait for pitchers and catchers. The MLB has no offseason.

  • Pizza Mike February 16, 2017 at 10:46 am

I looked forward to the flyers going another year without winning the stanley cup!
at least it will be that much easier since they have this artsy fartsy facemask.
Now i don’t feel so depressed that it will be over 40 years since they last won a championship!
    Thanks flyers!
Maybe you can come out with some fancy tube socks next!

  • Too puck 4 sure February 16, 2017 at 10:51 am

Will he be wearing it while watching the game from the bench. That way we won’t have to see his sour puss.

  • Shelby Woo February 16, 2017 at 11:14 am

Anyone want to do some blow?

    • Ray diddy's coke drip February 16, 2017 at 11:46 am

      Yeah man line’em up!

  • Jason M Asst PD February 16, 2017 at 11:42 am

G and the Flyers are 2 years away. Lots of talent in the minors.

  • Fake caller Dwayne aka pat Egan February 16, 2017 at 12:04 pm

Nat Egg has a phat azz I’d love to ride.

  • Jack Parkman February 16, 2017 at 12:09 pm

New Mask.. same shitty performance. And the Goalie search continues……………
Then again, cant be all his fault.. I think we have a sum total of 5 goals even strength. G and Jake.. christ what a waste. 17 is the best player they have.

  • Sarah Beaker February 16, 2017 at 12:14 pm

Sarah Beaker can’t wear it… too close to the SHHHNNNOOOOZZZZZ

    • That was funny!! February 16, 2017 at 2:40 pm

      Neither can Dan…

  • reality February 16, 2017 at 2:52 pm

That’s great. So when he gives up five goals on six shots he can put it on the bench next to him…..

  • steve mason elite goalie February 17, 2017 at 8:05 am

i am going to take you deep into the playoffs this year. and that’s a promise you can keep.
