The Story of a Pittsburgh Website Hacking Their Former Reporter’s DMs Is Insane

Few things:

  1. I had no idea DK Pittsburgh Sports existed before I saw these Tweets yesterday. It looks like a fairly comprehensive, well-put-together site, with credentialed reporters– every quality site needs those.
  2. This is BANANAS. Never mind that whole invasion of privacy thing, how do you not know your DMs are being read for a full year? Wouldn’t the unread notifications just disappear? Then again, if you’re like me and have unread text messages approaching triple digits and a comma in your unread emails, it’d be pretty to slip by a few stolen messages.
  3. I kind of respect the Journalistic(?) gumption to do this. Yeah, I mean it’s probably illegal and all, but that’s one hell of a way to get the story. Even Rupert Murdoch is awe-struck at the level of sophistication here. I’m not sure anyone gives a shit about the Pirates prospects this guy was reporting on it, but I like the competitive spirit.
  4. Truth is, I’ve been doing this to Tim Panaccio for years. Unfortunately, all it’s ever turned up is aimless missives to Italian restaurants asking if they accept a corporate Amex. Alas.
