The Trade Is Official

Sixers press release:

Philadelphia 76ers President of Basketball Operations Bryan Colangelo announced today that the team has acquired the first overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft from the Boston Celtics.

In exchange, the team sends the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft and a future first-round pick to Boston.

The future first-round pick that Boston will receive will be the Los Angeles Lakers’ first-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, provided that such pick is No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, or No. 5 in the 2018 NBA Draft. If the Lakers’ 2018 first-round pick is No. 1 or is No. 6 or later, the Sixers will instead convey to the Celtics the rights to the more favorable of the Sixers’ own 2019 first-round pick or the Sacramento Kings’ 2019 first-round pick, provided that the more favorable pick is not the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. If the more favorable of the Sixers’ and Kings’ 2019 first-round picks is the No. 1 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, the Sixers will instead convey the rights to the less favorable of those two picks.

My word, what a brilliant trade. In short, the Sixers will give the Celtics one additional first round pick– the Lakers’ 2018 pick if it falls between 2-5, or the better of their own or the Kings’ 2019 pick if it isn’t number one. It’s number one protected.

Just a hell of a job to give up the bare minimum by Bryan Colangelo.

  1. Dario is getting no love in any of these stories and pics so Boy oh Boy am I glad to see him here..

Dota 2 is also getting no love on this site… The International is in 1 month.

  2. Could NOT agree more with Esports are the future – not one article on The International which is in one month ya know !?!?!?!

  3. It does seem like a very good deal to me. Would have liked to have been a fly on the wall at the Celts’ and Lakers’ headquarters.

  4. Celtics pick becomes Sixers 2019 which will be a bottom of draft pick. It’s a huge long shot but the Celtics were dumb enough to sign off on it. If it happens Celtic fans will be jumping off the Prudential building.

  5. I agree that this appears to be a great deal for the Sixers, but the Celtics did not really want Fultze, so by dropping down 2 slots, they get the guy they want – Josh Jackson, and also, a potential future lottery pick in two years (Sacramentos’). I don’t see where the Celtics did anything wrong, or got “fleeced”.

    1. They will only have gotten “fleeced” if Fultz turns out to be a elite level NBA player, something that Boston badly needs. I still think there is another shoe to drop with Boston, like maybe a trade for Butler or it’s possible they can sell Paul George on Boston instead of LA.

    2. They will get Fleeced if Fultz is a star and they don’t get the Lakers pick in the top 2-5 next year or have to take the sixers pick in 2019 because the kings win the lottery.

    3. Isiaih Thomas isn’t going to win them any playoff games at PG defending anybody

  6. Let me tell you somethin brother. When I look into the eyes of all the little hulkamaniacs I can see the fear and the anxiety. All the little hulkamaniacs are asking me brother, are the Sixers really going to get markelle fultz brother? Let me tell you something man I talked to Bryan Colangelo and I told him brother if you don’t get markelle fultz I’m sending Vince McMahon down here brother and he’s going to body slam you into the concrete remains of Veteran Stadium brother. And then I went to Boston brother and I saw the look of fear in Danny ainge’s eyes. And while I was there I boned Bill Simmons wife, it’s on camera brother. And then I grabbed Brian and Danny by the back of their heads and slammed them together brother and made the trade happen. And now when I look into the eyes of all those little hulkamaniacs I see Joy because there’s a dynasty in the making here in Philly brother. So now we have to ask the NBA what you going to do when JoJo Foltz Dario and big Ben run wild on you?

  7. Celtics are getting a decent second first rounder no matter what. It’s a good deal for both teams TBH.
