Eagles-Giants Week 15 Live Thread

Photo Credit: James Lang-USA TODAY Sports

The Eagles are on the road again this week, but this time back on the east coast. This is the first contest for the birds without darling quarterback Carson Wentz. Nick Foles steps into the starter’s spot and the team did not bring in another quarterback this week so Nate Sudfeld is the backup.

Philly comes in at 11-2 and the Giants are 2-11.

The Eagles can clinch the #1 seed in the NFC today or at the very least clinch at least the second seed:

Philadelphia Eagles clinch home-field advantage with:
a win over the Giants AND a Vikings loss to the Bengals

Philadelphia Eagles clinch a first-round bye with:

a win over the Giants OR
a tie against the Giants AND a Rams loss/tie against the Seahawks AND a Saints loss/tie against the Jets AND a Panthers loss/tie against the Packers

Keep it locked to this live thread all pre-game and throughout the contest for updates.

4:27pm: That’ll do it. Eagles hold on for the win, a 34-29 triumph over the Giants. The Vikings thrashed the Bengals, so the Eagles don’t get the top seed. However, the win over New York nets the birds a first-round bye in the playoffs.

4:24pm: STOPPED! On fourth and goal for the Giants, the Eagles don’t let them score. New York turns the ball over on downs.

Two-minute warning: Eagles clinging to a 34-29 lead. Giants driving, in Eagles territory. Ronald Darby is trash. Get to a TV, if you can.

Eagles drive down the field after the blocked point, but failed to score a touchdown. Philly settles for a 20-yard field goal as Doug Pederson passes up on a fourth and goal opportunity from at New York’s 2-yard line. Birds lead 34-29 with 3:59 left in regulation.

Injury updates:

BLOCKED! Malcom Jenkins comes around the end and blocks the Giants’ 48-yard field goal attempt. Another big play by the special teams today. Enjoy:

Patrick Robinson exits the game with an apparent head injury. He took two blows to the head on the same play.

End of the 3rd quarter: Eagles 31 Giants 29. That’s good. This is bad:

Eagles force the Giants to punt, but they jump offsides giving New York a first down. Then this:

Following a Giants punt, the Eagles go right down the field and Foles throws up the jump ball for Agholor who makes a great catch. Eagles lead 30-23:

Eagles open up the 2nd half with a long, 11-play drive and cap off in the redzone with a 28-yard field goal. Eagles back out front, 24-23.

HALF: Giants 23, Eagles 21. Birds get the ball to start the 2nd half. First half stats:

Foles: 10/17, 85yds, 3 TDs

Manning: 20/33, 252yds, 2 TDs, 1 INT

The Giants drive down the field, aided by an unsportsmanlike call on Nigel Bradham, but the birds’ defense help NY to a field goal.

Giants injury update:

The Eagles once again take advantage of a big play by scoring another touchdown after the blocked punt:

The special teams making moves now too. Bust through for a block punt deep in Giants’ territory to set up the offense in the red-zone:

Touchdown, Eagles. Birds capitalize on the interception as Foles hits Zach Ertz for the touchdown:

INTERCEPTION! Ronald Darby picks off Eli and returns to the NY 20:

Eagles fail to convert a 4th and 1 for the first time this season and turn the ball over near midfield. The numbers:

The defense made a stop! The Giants punt for the first time of the day. Eagles take over with decent field position midway through the 2nd quarter.

Giants connect on a 67-yard catch and run for another touchdown. Broken tackles, broken hearts. NY leads 20-7 after this:

End of the 1st quarter: Giants 13, Eagles 7. Philly driving to start the second frame.

Agholor is back on the field, makes another catch to start the birds’ second drive.

Another Giants drive, another touchdown. This one as Jalen Mills got torched on a fade in the endzone. NY up 13-7. Time to panic about this defense?

In response, the Eagles go right down the field, aided by a pass interference call. Foles found Jeffery on the backline of the endzone. Eagles up 7-6. 5:28 left in opening quarter. Foles was good on the drive:

The score:

Nelson Agholor makes a great catch while taking a big hit. However, he exits the game a play later with what looks to be a hand injury.

Foles’ first throw is a completion to Alshon Jeffery for a first down. Super Bowl.

Welp, that wasn’t pretty. The Giants dink and dunk their way down the field on the opening drive of the game. The Eagles get a stop on 3rd and goal, but a holding call on Jalen Mills gives new life. New York runs it in few players later. Philly blocks PAT. 6-0 Giants.

Wiz is out again, not a good sign for this one, but especially down the road. Ankle has to be worse than Doug Pederson led on. John Clark is reporting that Chance Warmack starts in Wiz’s place.
