Let’s get it back to the Eagles.

News from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen today regarding SUPER BOWL MVP Nick Foles:

This follows a report from Peter King that the Birds had a “respectable” trade offer for Foles on the table. Geoff Mosher over at 97.5/Fanrag had a story about an AFC team offering a second rounder.

I think the first report is a proper starting point. If Bradford is worth a 1st and 4th, then your SUPER BOWL MVP is worth more.

I’m on the record saying that I’m not really gung-ho on a Nick Foles trade, not unless somebody wows you with an offer you can’t refuse.

Let’s rewind:

“Everybody has a spicy opinion on Nick’s future, but first let’s take a step back and examine recent history.

Could it be….

….that the Eagles won the Super Bowl….

….because they had a legitimate backup quarterback?

A lot of folks seem to be in a hurry to ship off Foles for draft picks, but I’m not. If he’s happy with the situation, why not bring him back in the exact same capacity as 2017?

After all, THAT’S HOW YOU WON THE FIRST SUPER BOWL IN FRANCHISE HISTORY.”

What say you?

Do you pull the trigger on a Foles trade for:

  1. a first and a third?
  2. a first and a second?
  3. two first round draft picks?
  4. one second round pick?

If someone wants to throw you a first and a second, or, God forbid, two first round draft picks, you obviously jump on it. Nobody is that desperate, right?

Consider the fact that you have a draft class that includes four first round projections in Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen, and Baker Mayfield, plus late first/early second talent like Lamar Jackson and Mason Rudolph, and Foles’ trade value is diluted. You’ve also got Kirk Cousins, Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater, and Bradford on the free agent market.

Furthermore, Foles is a free agent next offseason, so do you flip him now and cash in if you believe in the health of Carson Wentz and the upside of Nate Sudfeld? The front office seems to be high on their third stringer.

Either way, the Eagles are in good shape. Best case scenario, you flip Foles for a pair of high draft picks. You’ve only got six picks in April but not many holes to plug. It depends on what happens with Nigel Bradham, Trey Burton, Patrick Robinson, and Beau Allen in free agency.

Worse case scenario, you bring back your SUPER BOWL MVP.
