Colin Cowherd seems to think so.

I know we don’t really care what he has to say, but the premise is at least interesting. He’s arguing that the Eagles are becoming too “loud,” which I guess is gonna cause them to lose focus or fail to meet expectations in 2018:

Are they really that loud? Yeah, Lane Johnson talked a lot of shit about the Patriots. I don’t know if anybody else on the team would be considered a shit talker. Michael Bennett? I don’t know.

Malcolm Jenkins was politically active and did the national anthem fist for much of the season. Chris Long and Jeffrey Lurie supported him. That didn’t seem to cause any issues in the locker room or detract from the on-field performance. And the canceled White House visit feels like old news at this point.

Was it a bit much for Doug Pederson to do the book after two seasons as a head coach? Maybe. He even said that he was originally against the idea. But I don’t think the excerpt about the Jaguars running out the clock before halftime in the AFC Championship Game came off as arrogant or disrespectful, I think it just shed more light on his aggressive nature, which was key in getting his team to the Super Bowl (and winning it).

The truth is that the Seahawks would have won back-to-back Super Bowls if not for the bogus decision to throw the ball at the goal line in 2014. They went from 13-3 to 12-4, then came back down to Earth in 2015. But anyone who was paying attention knows they weren’t a one-hit wonder, but a team that really should have snagged two rings in two years.

Otherwise, sustained success is ultra rare. The Patriots have the best QB of all time and maybe the best coach of all time. Alabama has history and clout and world class facilities and Nick Saban, which makes it easy to recruit the best athletes in the country. We’re talking about the most elite of elite American football programs.

I don’t think anyone expects the Eagles to be Super Bowl contenders for 10 straight seasons, but they’re also not a crop of loud and arrogant trash talkers. If anything, last year showed that you can have an expressive and outspoken culture and still win games. That’s the exact opposite of what the Patriots have, which Johnson argued rubbed players the wrong way and made them less-than-enthusiastic in playing for New England.

Both approaches worked for their respective teams, so we’ll see if that continues for the Eagles in 2018.
