Time for Howie Roseman to Call the Steelers

Photo Credit: Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sports

Josh Gordon? Nah.

Dez Bryant. Nah.

Antonio Brown? Yes.

Check out this report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Ed Bouchette:

I can’t read the actual story because it looks like the newspaper’s website crashed or something. I’ll keep clicking on it until it loads.

Anyway, the news comes one day after Brown responded to a former Steelers PR guy who criticized the six-time Pro Bowler:

Yes, this is a good idea. Trade Antonio Brown to the Eagles and LET’S FIND OUT what kind of numbers he’d put up with Carson Wentz.

We’ll send you Nick Foles, Kamar Aiken, and a 7th rounder for AB’s services.

It’s time for the Eagles to #DoTheDeal.

Do we honestly even have the cap room? I know Howie is a genius with that and we recently cleared up another $6 million this year but would this even be realistic? I have no idea what the cap situation is like currently and what it will be in future years without Brown’s contract, let alone adding it. Let’s not forget, Wentz will get a huge contract as well.

They would have the cap room, but as you say it chomps out a big load of cap room you will need to extend Wentz, Darby, Hicks, etc. Not to mention, are you willing to give up the price for him. It won’t be players…it’ll probably be at least a #1 AND probably a #2. Oh, and this is all contingent upon Pittsburgh losing their marbles and trading the best WR in the game.

The Eagles could move some contracts to create the space this year. The bigger problem is the dead cap hit that Pittsburgh would take on by trading AB.

If they trade him now, Pitt gets hit with $7mm cap hit this year and a $21mm cap hit next year. Valuable cap space they cannot use for another player, like Bell.

Kinker…. where did the post go where your boss (Kyle) used a gay slur to describe the Eagles game? Conveniently deleted? No apology (as usual)? Any apology on the way for calling Chris Mortensen a drunk when he had throat cancer? Another one for the CB Hall of Fame (next to the other various falsehoods/rumors spread, the Leslie Gudel articles, and the website upgrades that were “subscriber worthy”).

It was brilliantly pointed out (I’d link to it but can’t find the post) that there aren’t enough touches to go around as it is with all the talent we have on offense. AB is a WR1, and will want WR1 looks, that kind of thing comes at the expense of Aiken and Gibson’s opportunities. And what if Alshon ever returns this season?

What the Eagles need is a bottom of the barrel, WR4 type who isn’t talented enough to play the outside despite his size, nor fast enough to maximize the slot. Somebody who the Bills even look at and go “you know what, we’ll be fine” This will also score them style points for not looking too desperate for all-world talent.
