Eagles Fan Jake Tapper was Approached by the Saudis

Per him:

Saying no to these kinds of things is the first lesson they teach you in journalism school. You don’t take gifts or do trips or junkets. Even when you participate in something innocuous like the Sixers media basketball game, the jerseys and t-shirts and hats or whatever that they give you are supposed to be returned or passed off to fans instead.

I don’t think any beat writers really split hairs over this, and it’s not like a cheap piece of apparel is a huge deal, but that’s how it used to be taught in ethics class – you just don’t take anything from anyone, whether you’re covering news, politics, sports, or entertainment.

Anyway, it does make you wonder if the Saudis approached anyone else about a Super Bowl trip. Obviously they weren’t doing it for fun, it was an effort to win influence and/or blackmail journos like Tapper and whomever else was targeted. I’m 99.9% sure of this.

Interestingly, there was a “gigapixel” camera set up at the game last year, and there’s an interactive tool that allows you to zoom in on basically every seat and every suite inside the stadium. I have yet to locate the Saudis, but I did find the entire Philadelphia Inquirer contingent sitting in the press box:

I also found Brian Westbrook chilling on the sidelines:

There’s more to find here, so let’s get in there and see what we can discover.

(Of course the relevance here, and the reason Tapper is tweeting about this, is the death of Jamal Khashoggi, which you can read about by clicking on this link)

    Great story. Compelling, and rich.

Tony Bruno would have accepted without blinking. Of course, there would have to have been an extra ticket for Mr Robin.

So you’re saying governments, corporations and individuals attempt to lobby each other to curry favor? Shocking development!

If one of my employees took a bribe from Saudi Arabia, I’d say “You’re fired!” (Oh, wait…)

This is a really dangerous time in this country. Not only do you have the people like the Saudis doing shit like this but the vast majority of our increasingly stupid population doesn’t realize why this is relevant.

Let me preface things by saying I am not a Trump supporter, but anti-Trump media outlets (cough, CNN) would have their viewership believe this all originates with the Trump administration when the reality is the U.S. has had a long standing history with the POS country that is Saudi Arabia. An alliance that remains in place despite 15 of the 19 terrorists on 9/11 were Saudi citizens, their well documented history of human rights violations, and now this murder of a journalist. But hey, a rich nation is a rich nation.

        since 1933. blood for oil

        • Don Carmen October 12, 2018 at 1:36 pm

Yet the US now exports more oil than any other country in the world. Maybe that’s why we are suddenly hard asses with them.

Oh my god, an actual thoughtful, factual, non-insulting political comment on CB? Thank you.

Yes, as you and the next commenter say, this goes back much further than Trump and Obama and Bush 43. But the single most under-reported FACT in the wake of 9/11 and in the many years since is that 15 of the 19 cowards who hijacked those planes were Saudis. (So, of course, we invaded Iraq…) “MBS” is playing the west for fools, throwing bones that make it look like he’s different than past regimes — “women can drive now!” and “hey, I re-opened the movies theaters!” — while being every bit the extremist and geopolitical manipulator. I’ve cringed as major companies (and our government) have tied themselves to the MBS regime and fawned over him during his little US propaganda tour last year.

Are the media suppose to say no to the team buffets ?? Heard the eagles beat writers kill it at the eagles buffets. Rube Frank even takes home leftovers

  • AL Tru October 12, 2018 at 12:05 pm

The Las Vegas attack was an assassination attempt gone bad. They were after a Saudi Prince. When Saudi’s give huge donations to politicians, they are usually given women or young boys in return.

the Saudi’s trained ISIS. gotta keep some “bad guys” in play.
the public has no idea this shit goes on

  • Sure October 12, 2018 at 3:05 pm

    OK

  • Lowell Meyerson - The Fanny Doctor October 12, 2018 at 3:23 pm

The Saudis are world-class scum, but for the love of god, you idiots, they had NOTHING to do with 9/11.

9/11 was a Mossad job through and through, and it’s peak irony hearing people mock the general public for not knowing this or that goes on, while still believing in the ridiculous Saudi boogeyman 9/11 tale.

If you have never heard of the dancing Israelis, you should go google that right now. This is not even wild, far-fetched stuff at this point. But here we are shaking our fists at those damn Saudis for 9/11. Lol, what a joke.
