Pretty rough week in politics, I’d say.

The Brett Kavanaugh hearings have been emotional and contentious as people and politicians alike clash over how to proceed with the controversial Supreme Court nominee. In a time when so many disagree about so much, there’s one thing that most of us agree on – we need more Gritty and we need him (it?) now. Thus, John Oliver opened the latest episode of his show Last Week Tonight with the Flyers’ (intentionally awful yet awesome?) new mascot:

Oliver’s good-natured barbs at Gritty were apolitical, but later in the episode he used the orange, uh, whatever he is to represent Kavanaugh during a skit:

Said Oliver:

But Kavanaugh, if he is seated, doesn’t even deserve that treatment. He deserves something that constantly reminds people who he is. He deserves something hostile, consistently unsettling, temperamentally unpleasant, and that screams, ‘Who the f*ck allowed this to happen?’

Gritty appears around the 28:25 mark:

I’m sure people are either going to love this or hate it, but I don’t really have a take here. I’m not much of a political guy, and I don’t think most of you are coming to this site for Supreme Court and judicial process hot takes.

But I will say this: Gritty as a political prop? Didn’t see that one coming.

Kinkead: I hate all politicians
