Jake Voracek Says Uber Driver Who Filmed Ottawa Players is a “F$%^&@! Idiot”

If you’re a hockey fan, you probably saw the video of the Ottawa Senators players that was filmed by an Arizona Uber driver without their consent.

The team was on a west coast road swing and a bunch of their guys were in what looks like an SUV or a van. The video features forward Matt Duchene and others criticizing their coaches and talking about the team’s defensive problems.

From the Ottawa Sun:

“Marty Raymond, the only coach in NHL history to have the worst power-play and the worst PK within a calendar year,” says Sens forward Matt Duchene, in reference to Martin Raymond, an assistant coach in charge of the team’s penalty-killing this year and power-play last season.

The remark is met with laughter and only invites more jest from the players.

Defenceman Chris Wideman, sitting in the front passenger seat, chirps in: “Do you notice that when (Raymond) runs the video, if you actually do pay attention, he doesn’t ever teach you anything? He just commentates what’s happening.”

Then Duchene can be heard replying: “Here’s the other thing, too. We don’t change anything, ever. So why do we even have a meeting? I haven’t paid attention in three weeks.”

The players apologized their words in a combined statement, and today Jake Voracek was asked for his opinion on it at Flyers practice.

Quotes via John Boruk at NBC Sports Philadelphia:

“You go out for a beer, you go out for dinner, it happens. The coaches vent about the players when they go out to dinner about who fucking sucks, who’s playing bad, who’s playing better. It happens everywhere. So now it comes out, they’re making a big deal. I don’t think they said anything bad, just that their PK and their PP sucks.”

Who knows exactly what the Uber driver’s motivation was behind posting the video — something comparable to Taxicab Confessions — but what concerns Voracek is how a normal civilian could potentially cash in with damning information.

“Who gives a shit? He’s a fucking idiot. Do your job,” Voracek said. “You’re an Uber driver, drive cars. Don’t try to sell copies to make some money. Get the fuck out of here. You know what I mean, he’s a loser.”

Hard to disagree with that!

Here’s the video if you haven’t seen it:

JFC Jake, it isn’t like this uber driver was doing some deep undercover espionage. If they didn’t start blabbing, he wouldn’t have ever known who the hell they were. This probably didn’t make a small dent in the national sports world, but obviously it’s news worthy in the hockey world so if the guy made some coin off of it, so be it.

And if player/coaches do this about each other a lot and it’s no big deal then why you getting so angry, Jake?

Voracek sticks up for the players.

That is the first time I have seen him defend somebody all season.
