Over at Phillies Reddit, some poster named “KVNKLLY23” shared a picture of two Victus bats featuring Bryce Harper’s last name accompanied by the number 34 and Philadelphia-related imagery.

The pair of bats each say “Harper 34” and have miniature logos of the Liberty Bell and LOVE sign. One is red and one is that old powder blue that the Phils used to wear back in the day.

So.. what the hell does this mean? Is Harper going to sign here? Is anything at all going to happen in baseball free agency?

Makes sense.

Clubs will typically put together gifts or packages or props or whatever to bring to free agent meetings. Like if the guy’s wife is pregnant, you bring a bunch of Philadelphia Phillies baby clothing and give it to her, something that doubles as a nice gesture and a “we’d really like you to play for us” kind of deal. You have to do your schmoozy due diligence. These bats look like something you’d bring to that kind of meeting, then you show them to Harper and say, “imagine swinging one of these bad boys in 2019!

That sounded corny, but you get the point.

For what it’s worth, Harper has used various bats over the course of his career. He used a Victus BH 137.1 in 2016 and also used a custom Victus in the 2018 home run derby, which he won. That was the pretty sick bat with the “We the People” written in cursive on the barrel.

This has been your baseball 2019 free agency update, now back into the nameless void we go.
