NBC Sports Philadelphia Had “Best Finish Ever” in 2018

NBC Sports Philadelphia sent out a press release a short time ago with ratings information and some other numbers.

Here is the entire thing:

PHILADELPHIA – February 11, 2019 – NBC Sports Philadelphia posted its best finish ever in 2018, as the third most-watched RSN (Kinkead: regional sports network) in total day and primetime households (HH), according to Nielsen Media Research. NBC Sports Philadelphia moved up three spots from 2017. NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Chicago also placed in the Top 10, ranking fifth and eighth, respectively.

As the number three RSN in the nation in primetime (M-Su/7-11pm), NBC Sports Philadelphia averaged nearly 41,000 household impressions a night in the market from January 1 through December 31, 2018.

2018 NBC Sports Philadelphia Highlights:

  • Following the 2017-18 season (which was the Sixers’ highest-rated since the 2011-12 season) Sixers ratings have continued to grow – pacing up 16% during the current 2018-19 season.
  • NBC Sports Philadelphia registered a 6.2 HH overnight rating on November 14, when Jimmy Butler made his Sixers’ debut against the Orlando Magic, making it the highest rated Sixers game since 2001.
  • Sixers playoff ratings (April 14-14, 2018) averaged a 6.8 HH rating, the highest postseason rating since 2012.
  • Sixers streaming uniques are up 63%, and average streaming minutes are up 77% versus last year.

  • Visits per uniques are up 9%

Social Media Engagements:

  • Facebook are up 39%
  • Twitter are up 424%
  • Instagram are up 202%

In 2018, NBC Sports Philadelphia debuted new programs and products including – The Mike Missanelli ShowSixers Outsiders, and the digital exclusive “The Swipe,” on Instagram,  plus the new MyTeams app, and Philly Pass – a new Direct to Consumer product, targeting out of market Philly sports fans.

There you go. Good things happen when local teams are winning.

I don’t have the Nielsen numbers sitting in front of me, nor do you you, because Nielsen is a scam. The ratings information is top-secret stuff that you have to pay for as a client, and the sample sizes of TV households and folks actually wearing a 1990s era portable people meter are alarmingly small. We have much better technology in 2019 that goes unused.

But I absolutely believe that NBCSP is rocking and rolling. I’d also be interested in seeing that top ten list of regional sports networks to check out who else is doing well.

“That’s why I’ve been pushing our t-shirts so hard– they’re profitable!”

  • This is why they have told satellite TV to pay their price to carry them or fuck off February 11, 2019 at 6:26 pm

It’s never going to happen. Not in our lifetime. DirectTV and Dish have both said screw it. It will be interesting in the next few years as all three teams that are only available on the RSN get good and satellite loses more subs in our area if either service will give in and pay the exorbitant fees to put on their service. I’m going to stick with not in our lifetime.

No doubt Mike Miss 2-5 show is a huge reason for the ratings spike. Can’t wait for them to air the Cuz and Jason in the prime lunch time slot. That would be awesome baby!

The cuz was just waaaay too much yesterday. Laying it on too thick.
“This 6ers roster is the best the franchise has ever seen”
“I expect nothing less than a finals appearance this season”
“They’re just so potent! Easily the best team in the conference, possibly the league!”
Yeah, that’s what he was saying yesterday.
All bc the 6ers beat the LeBrons…
The cuz used to get major hate here not too long ago, and the way he was acting yesterday was the reason
