Report: Phillies Have “Continued Interest” in Chicago’s Alex Colome

Via Jon Morosi of MLB Network:

Colome is 30 years old and making about $7 million this season. He’d be under control for 2020.

Bob is our baseball guy, and he tells me that opponents are only hitting .141 against Colome, which is the third lowest average for relievers. His 0.78 WHIP is also third lowest among relievers.

Also Bob, after the jump:

If there’s a concern, it’s that his .150 BABIP (second lowest of all qualified relievers) and low K/9 means there could be an element of luck at play. His 2.27 ERA is lower than his 3.88 FIP. Either way, he’s been awesome but he’s probably going to regress a bit.

I guess the snarky answer is to say something like, “well the Phillies should show ‘continued interest’ in any pitcher with a pulse!'” That’s certainly true, but as a non-baseball guy it seems to me like they could use multiple pieces in multiple spots moving forward.

Shrug.
