In a rather unusual move, the Minnesota Wild fired general manager Paul Fenton this week, a little more than one year into his tenure.

Wild owner Craig Leopold said Chuck Fletcher’s replacement “was not the right fit for the organization,” which seems like a diplomatic way to put lipstick on their pig of a season, a season highlighted (lowlighted?) by trades of Nino Niederreiter, Charlie Coyle, and Mikael Granlund.

Since the NHL is a “retread league,” the Wild are apparently interested in talking to former Flyers GM Ron Hextall:

That would be interesting.

So Hextall is fired in Philly and Chuck Fletcher replaces him. Then Hextall replaces the guy who replaced Fletcher in Minnesota. Then everybody circles Flyers/Wild on the calendar and we make a big deal out of it.

Here’s a tweet:

Fair point, though Minnesota ownership would have to be willing to show more patience than Flyers ownership did.

We shall see!
