Schefty was on 97.5 the Fanatic this morning with Marc Farzetta and Tra Thomas.

Topic #1 – Jadeveon Clowney. Do the Eagles have any true interest in trading for the Texans’ defensive end?

Here’s what the ESPN NFL insider had to say:

“Well, listen, I think the Eagles are always in the market and looking for good players. That’s not anything out of the ordinary, right? But you have a situation there where it’s not a simple thing to do. You have to fit $17.1 million dollars of salary into their cap. So to trade for him, you have to (clear) $17.1 million cap space. Again, it’s not a simple thing, plus, you cannot sign him to a long-term extension. Plus, you’d have to compensate the Houston Texans. What do you get for a guy who is on an expiring contract who you can’t sign to an extension until after the season while taking on $17.1 million? The Eagles are always in the market, they’re always looking and always active. I just think it’s a challenging deal. I think if Jadeveon Clowney had a choice, he’d like to come to Philadelphia. But again, it’s not a simple trade to make. Somebody said to me in this particular case it would take three to tango.”

It’s more about the salary than the compensation. You can get him for a reasonable price since he’s going to be on a one-year franchise tender.

I can’t imagine this happening, can you? It doesn’t seem like a typical Howie Roseman type of move. Plus, Chris Long retired under the pretense that he felt like he wasn’t going to have the role or the playing time he thought he should have, which suggests that the Birds are comfortable with what they already have at defensive end. I don’t know why they’d upset that balance and mess with the salary cap less than two weeks from the season opener.

But you never know!

The rumor mill churns with reports that the Dolphins are most interested in Clowney, so we’ll see if they can work something out. In the meantime, watch this over and over again:
