Apparently this is a thing.

The video of Delran native Carli Lloyd hitting field goals at Eagles training camp has turned into a mystery NFL team offering her a preseason roster spot and “chance to play,” according to Fox Sports analyst Martin Rogers.

My first thought is… why not? It’s not like she’d be playing bandit safety. She ain’t gonna be out there throwing the swim move on Russell Okung. If Carli can put on pads and a helmet and kick a ball consistently through the uprights, then I guess it doesn’t matter if she’s man/woman/whatever. She’s 37 years old and her soccer career is pretty much done, and if Phil Dawson can kick field goals in his forties, then I don’t know why Lloyd can’t do it.

Keenan Allen had a take on this:

Hah.

He’s not wrong. If she’s all of a sudden the last person back on a kick off return or field goal block, could you see Carli Lloyd laying out Tyler Lockett? Like just crushing him with a decleater? Would be great if it did happen. Great video.

Thing about Keenan Allen’s take, however, is this –

How many NFL kickers are laying out anybody at all? I don’t think Carli Lloyd vs. Devin Hester in open space is that much of a dropoff from Jake Elliott vs. Devin Hester in open space. I guess I would trust Elliott to make the rare touchdown-saving tackle more than Lloyd. That’s 5’9″, 170 pounds vs. 5’8″ and 140 pounds, so she’s giving up 30 LBs and an inch to a guy who isn’t exactly a physical specimen.

Something to think about, however. Honest question; would you be cool with Carli Lloyd as your field goal kicker? She’d have to shorten this run up, but I think some of the other videos floating around show her knocking ’em in with the typical NFL kicker form:
