Inquirer: Phillies “Could Have a Manager by Next Week”

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s get it back to the Phillies, who reportedly interviewed Buck Showalter, Dusty Baker, and Joe Girardi this week.

What’s next?

Apparently another round of interviews, according to the Inquirer’s Matt Breen, who writes the following in his Thursday newsletter:

And then there were three. The Phillies’ search to replace manager Gabe Kapler has reached its final stages, as the team will hold follow-up interviews over the next few days with Dusty Baker, Joe Girardi, and Buck Showalter after meeting with all three managers this week.

Those three — all with established track records — are believed to be the only three candidates for the job. A decision is expected to be finalized next week. Girardi and Showalter are considered the favorites. General manager Matt Klentak and assistant general manager Ned Rice are leading the search, but managing partner John Middleton and team president Andy MacPhail will have a say.

As far as Gabe Kapler, he interviewed with the Cubs this week. He also reportedly interviewed with San Fran.

My gut still tells me Showalter is gonna be the guy, but I think Girardi would be the better hire.

funny how people still don’t get this site. the whole reason to come here is so you don’t have to chase down 15 different sources or sift through endless tweets to find what matters in this market. one stop shopping, people. but keep complaining about it and continuing to read it

He is desperate and is constantly recycled as he always comes up short. Still think Girardi is the best fit because won a ring. He is also perfect for the media in this town.

For all intents and purposes a 3-4 football team, that is going to get WAXED in primetime on Sunday night and essentially have their season end in Jerry’s World. Least Carson Wentz winning pctg against “good” teams cant get worse and beat into the ground. The cowboys are also a bad team…

So we will need that small window before a real team(Sixers) season starts, so we at least have something substantial to look at.

But the Phillies will think that bring in Showalter or some other washed manager, Baker will put buts in the seat, and you will all be happy, as they have Middleton wrapped around a finger.

If Girardi is not the hire, this team will set themselves up for more years of failure.

So glad I took off Monday, gonna be a heavy drinking day!

    Time is Yours!

Since you are off on Monday you should seriously consider taking a trip to CCP and enrolling in an English class.
