The Eagles Are Bringing Back Jordan Matthews for a Third Stint

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Worst kept secret in the world, yeah?

Jordan Matthews was in town Tuesday for a physical with the Eagles, and it looks like the deal is complete now:

It was inevitable.

J-Matt is back for a third stint with the Eagles after being cut by the 49ers prior to the season. He previously spent 2014-2016 with the Birds before going to Buffalo in the Ronald Darby trade. He wound up on IR up there, had a brief run in New England, and then found his way back to Philadelphia last year after Mike Wallace went down.

It’s not an exciting move, but Matthews is familiar with the offense and familiar with Carson Wentz. He’s 27 years old and is an upgrade over Mack Hollins, who can go back to being a special teamer or whatever it is he actually wants to do.

Here are Matthews’ career stats if you’d like a refresher:

  1. Will Carson be allowed to bring his childhood security blanket on the field now too? He can wear it like a cape since the media and fanbase treat him like Superman anyway.

Has there been a more babied athlete in Philadelphia history?

At least we won’t just see passes to Ertz now that his other buddy is in town. Must have been up all night on the phone with Jordan discussing celebration dances for those lollipop, stat-padding opportunities in December.

  2. His highlight catch last year was a 37 yard TD in the playoffs thrown by……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….Nick Foles.

      1. I know eventually the media and fan base will re-write history to say that Wentz not Foles started and won Super Bowl 52, but until that happens: Wentz has never played a playoff game. The Eagles would have only played the Titans in a Super Bowl. The Eagles have never played the Titans in the Super Bowl. So, So is correct. Foles threw Matthews that pass in the Saints playoff game. Which they lost.

Now, that Wentz has basically the same exact receiving corps (minus Tate) that Foles had during last December when the season was turned around but has a much better running game, no more excuses? He should run the table.

        1. You write the same thing on every post…just switch the words around…

It’s like believing Jeffrey Epstein killed himself…

I mean based on your theory..its same wr corps from 2017 minus torey smith…does Torrey smith move ur needle..

Just pls stop watching football..or at least find another team.

      2. I mean, I would say a TD catch in the playoffs trumps a longer pass in week 2, but I’m just here to stir up trouble.
