Not a great Sunday for Super Bowl champion Nick Foles, who was benched for Gardner Minshew at halftime of the Jag-wires’ 28-11 home loss to Tampa Bay.

Foles finished 7-14 for 93 yards and an interception with a pair of lost fumbles, which resulted in fans openly chanting for the backup quarterback instead:

Great stat from ESPN Jaguars reporter Michael DiRocco:

Nick Foles has played 173 snaps in four games this season and if the change to Gardner Minshew is permanent for the final month of the season Foles will have earned $177,746 per snap in 2019.

Not a bad monetary haul, but I feel bad for Nick, honestly. He got a big-money contract and a chance to be the starting quarterback, began his Duval tenure 5-8 for 75 yards and a touchdown in the season opener, and then broke his clavicle and missed nine weeks of action. Minshew comes in with his goofy mustache, plays well, and then Foles looks rough after taking back the starting job. Now he’s lost it again as the Jags slump their way to a 4-8 record.

The ‘Folesian society’ should pipe down a bit after this benching. That’s not a knock against Nick or Eagle fans who believe he’s better than Carson Wentz, but seriously, some of that was getting really annoying. It was annoying to hear “Nick Foles would have blah blah” every time time Wentz threw a bad pass. Foles is a legend here and let’s just leave it at that. They were never going to keep him and trade Wentz anyway, so it’s not worth talking about, and it’s certainly not worth dumbing down his legacy in this town via pointless internet arguments.

Edit: he’s benched Sunday –
