Matt Rhule Will Be Named Carolina Panthers Coach

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

He’s not going to the Giants.

He’s going to the Panthers, according to Pete Thamel, which was then confirmed by everybody:

Gut reaction:

Happy for Matt Rhule, who is a good dude and did great things with the Temple program. He brought College Gameday to Independence Mall, which tells you all you need to know about his tenure on North Broad. He deserved an NFL gig, and he’s doing it somewhere that isn’t the NFC East, so Eagles fans won’t have to see him twice a year. Birds fans who are Temple alumni won’t have to cheer against him home and away.

Of course it’ll be a big transition from coaching teenagers to men, but Rhule spent a year in the Giants organization and has experience in that department, so I think he’ll figure it out. Good for him.
