Idaho Mom Arrested After Refusing to Leave Playground

via Twitter

This week in viral videos we’ve got clips of an Idaho mother being arrested after bringing her kids to a closed playground and  refusing to leave.

The park apparently had police tape surrounding it and was shuttered due to the pandemic, like most public spaces in Philly right now. A group of moms and kids came to the park to protest, officers showed up and asked them to go home, and then this happened (two clips) –

The Daily Mail wrote up the details:

A mother-of-four from Idaho was seen on video getting arrested on Tuesday for violating coronavirus restrictions by being at a closed playground, sparking a large protest at the the local City Hall hours later.

Sara Walton Brady, 40, from Meridian, was at the shuttered playground section at Kleiner Park with her children just before 4pm along with other people to protest against the state’s stay-at-home order.

According to the Meridian Police Department, on Tuesday, the demonstrators removed metal signage and caution tape announcing the playground closure due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Brady and the other people were repeatedly told the playground area was off-limits and invited to use other parts of the park if they so chose.

Brady refused to leave and continued arguing with the officer, prompting him to give her ‘5 seconds’ to clear the playground area.

As the officer was counting down the seconds, a defiant Brady challenged him: ‘arrest me for being difficult. Do it.’

She then positioned her hands behind her back so that the officer could, place handcuffs on her, after telling the woman documenting the incident on her cellphone to ‘record it.’

So she broke the rules and knew what was going to happen. Nobody should be surprised by that. The real question is whether we’re going too far by shutting down playgrounds and parks and other public gathering spots.

If you drive around Philly, you’ll find that every park or rec center with a fence is currently gated and locked, with COVID-19 signage posted. Basketball rims have been removed or covered with wood blocks.

But parks that don’t have fences, like Penn Treaty, are open and frequently feature people walking, running, and doing other spring-ish activities. Most of these folks seem to be keeping proper distance and wearings masks, and I haven’t personally seen anybody on the slides or swings, where kids would touch the plastic or metal and then spread the virus around.

I guess the jarring thing is seeing a mom getting arrested at a playground, which feels like a symbolic and shitty image of the current times we’ve living in.

  1. If she had just complied she wouldn’t be in this mess.

    I bet she’s no angel.

She must have done something before the video started to provoke the police.

Can’t believe she behaved like that in the presence of her children.

Let’s wait till we have all the facts.

    1. Idaho is loaded with sovereign citizens. They think laws don’t apply to them

  2. The police officer should have beat her with a baton! It would have taught her and friends a lesson.

  3. what does this have to do with sports in philadelphia? keep on pandering joo fro.

  4. “What a Karen! I hate white people some times. Arrest her and give her the electric chair! People are so ig-nant”

Meanwhile, Nat Egg will never have four children to this biologically superior hero.

  5. A lot of angry, frustrated white guys posting above.

Mostly because they can’t get girls like Natalie and support dumb f*cks like Trump.

  6. I felt the same way when i was arrested, put on trial and convicted of a felony offence.
Us bitches don’t deserve this forcackta treatment.

  7. So the alternative is to open the park for everyone?

Has anything gotten into your head since all of this started?
Or are you just that wacked?

  8. The police department are pointless .

  9. nice…I hope she gets a hefty fine. she would be the first person to sue the city/county/state if one of her kids fell and got hurt…f’her and everyone like her

  10. Man since I got out of prison after 40 years, I can’t keep up with these modern technologies and inventions. I guess joining that violent Back To Nature Organization wasn’t a good idea.

  11. The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prevents the government from making laws which regulate an establishment of religion, prohibit the free exercise of religion, or abridge the freedom of speech, the freedom of the press, the right to peaceably assemble, or the right to petition the government for redress of grievances

  12. That looks like a very nice, clean and safe playground. We don’t see any broken glass, spent shell casings or graffiti. I bet there are no drive-by shootings in that area. What would happen if the po-leece tried to arrest a Thelma or Shontay at a Norf Philly playground for the same offense?

      1. You know he’s pissed when he starts posting so he can post to himself.

        Koo koo. Koo koo.

        Internet puss. How weak. 😂😂👍

  13. All those chicks were total dimes. Love the yoga pants. Guna go jack it to this video now.

When kinkuR bloooows kyile every night does Gov Wolf consider that ‘correct social distancing’?

  15. What does the guy yell at the end of the video to which the one woman responds, “her kids are here!”?
