Capitals Waive Fringe Player Who Made Inappropriate Comments in Hacked Instagram Conversation

You probably saw this story the other day.
Capitals forward Brendan Leipsic found himself in deep shit after a friend’s Instagram account was hacked, resulting in a private conversation becoming very public. In that conversation, Leipsic called an ex-teammate’s wife “fat” and referred to two current teammates as “losers.” He described another woman as “Shrek” and talked about doing cocaine.
So yeah, the Capitals cut ties with the guy today.
The Washington Capitals have placed Brendan Leipsic on unconditional waivers for purposes of terminating his contract.
Going out on limb, I’d guess that if Alex Ovechkin made these comments, he’d probably be suspended for a few weeks and then allowed to come back. Same thing for John Carlson or Nicklas Backstrom or another big time Caps player. Leipsic gets the axe because he was a fringe player to begin with.
Not that it means anything now, but he apologized on Twitter, writing this:
