Let’s check in on southeast Texas, home of the great hip hop duo UGK (RIP Pimp C).

Apparently there’s an annual event called “Go Topless Jeep Weekend,” which from context clues appears to be a beach gathering of Jeep owners. It looks like something out of that Floribama Shore show on MTV, which my wife binged a few weeks ago.

This is a real report from News 12, based out of Beaumont:

“The cops are doing their job. As long as they don’t be mean to people who being innocent, then I’m all gravy, baby.”

Hard to argue with that. And the Jeep weekend looks like fun. Pull your Jeep up to the beach, crack a couple of beers, and enjoy the sun? Works for me.

Texas is one of the states that’s been more lax on COVID-19 restrictions, so the video isn’t really surprising at all. Apparently as new data rolls in, there’s been an increase in cases as well, which also is not surprising:

Officials down there have been much more cavalier than Pennsylvania and New Jersey, although some of the scenes in that video clip match what the Jersey shore looked like this past weekend, with folks cruising around the boardwalk en masse. There hasn’t been enough time to collect proper data on NJ, since the beach restrictions were only eased recently, whereas Texas started to reopen at the end of April.

Something to keep an eye on. In the meantime, here’s a true dirty south banger:
