Former Flyer Wayne Simmonds shared some news today about the formation of a new “Hockey Diversity Alliance.”

He’ll join current Flyers/Phantoms player Chris Stewart on the Executive Committee, with the goal of eradicating “racism and intolerance in hockey.”

Here’s the release from Simmonds’ Twitter post:

Right now there are 43 players of color in the NHL and the Flyers are tied for having employed the sixth-most all-time, among them Simmonds, Stewart, Donald Brashear, Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, Tyrell Goulbourne, Justin Bailey, Sandy McCarthy, and the late Ray Emery. The Edmonton Oilers have had 13 black and/or POC players, leading the list, and the Sabres and Rangers have had 12 each.
