In today’s “Why on God’s Green Earth is This a Thing?” let’s take a look a culinary creation that *probably* shouldn’t see the light of day: cheesesteak flavored Lay’s.

It appears Lay’s entered into a partnership of sorts with Geno’s to develop the cheesesteak flavor, Party Fowl for Nashville hot chicken, El Torito for carnitas street tacos, Cocina Azul for chile relleno (see video below), and Grimaldi’s Pizzeria for their pizza flavor. Will I try the new flavors? Probably. Will I silently hate myself for it? Likely. While the cheesesteak one doesn’t exactly tickle my fancy, the Nashville hot chicken, chile relleno, and carnitas street taco flavors will find their way into my kitchen.

Why spend your money these new flavors? It’s in support of a good cause.

Per NBC 10, each of the restaurants that have collaborated with Lay’s will receive a $25,000 donation to put towards COVID-19 relief efforts as part of Lay’s Gratitude Fund. Regardless of how you feel about Geno’s vs. Pat’s vs. Jim’s vs. Steve’s vs. Dalessandro’s, it’s good to see some restaurants getting help after many had been hung out to dry, practically forgotten, while massive chain restaurants gobbled up government funding.
