Stephen Jackson Says DeSean Jackson is “Speaking the Truth”

Former NBA player Stephen Jackson has been in the news cycle recently as somebody who knew George Floyd personally. You might have seen him on TV talking about Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement.

In a somewhat-but-not-totally related gesture, Jackson took to social media Tuesday to say the following about DeSean Jackson’s Instagram posts (NSFW audio):

Jackson, in part:

“He’s speaking the truth. You know he don’t hate nobody, but he’s speaking the truth of the facts that he knows, and trying to educate others. But you don’t want us to educate ourselves. If it’s talking about the black race, y’all ain’t saying nothing about it. They’re killing us, police killing us, and treating us like shit. Racism is at an all time high.”

He mentions Riley Cooper towards the end of the clip.

Thing with these comments is that Stephen Jackson is basically talking about the plight of black men and women, and the idea that DeSean was attempting to share a pro-black message on Instagram. There’s nothing wrong with that, the idea of educating yourself and other people. Not at all. The problem is that DeSean was trying to educate via fake Adolf Hitler quotes and praise for an anti-semite in Louis Farrakhan.

In simple terms, it’s not what DeSean was ATTEMPTING to do, it’s how he went about it. That’s the point of contention here and reason for the backlash.

Time’s yours.
