On Sunday night, the Philadelphia Flyers and New York Islanders meet in the fourth game of their second-round series. Let’s get into our Flyers-Islanders betting preview, including odds, boosts, and picks.

Flyers vs. Islanders Betting Preview

Through three games, this series between Philadelphia and New York has been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. Game 1 was a 4-0 blowout on the final scoresheet, yet was a much more competitive game than the final tally indicated.

Game 2 saw the Flyers jump out to an early 3-0 lead, appearing to announce to the league that the team that finished the regular season 9-1 and mowed through Boston, Washington, and Tampa Bay in the Round Robin was no fluke. Yet, the ever-resilient Islanders fired back, tying the game in the final minutes, leading to an OT thriller capped off by a goal by Flyers defenseman Phil Myers.

After a two day delay, the teams met in Game 3, which saw the Flyers jump out to a 1-0 lead on a wicked shot through traffic. The Islanders were outplayed in the first and responded by controlling every facet of the game in the second period, netting two goals including one that trickled across the goalline with just 5.1 seconds remaining in the period. The Flyers came back with a slightly more spirited effort in the third period, but New York sealed the deal with a third and final goal.

The Islanders have shown consistent effort and determination throughout the series. The Flyers have had two or three solid periods through the first three games, yet only trail the series 2-1. Which Flyers team will show up for Game 4?

Bets We Like With a Flyers Win

Money Puck gives the Flyers just a 44.8% chance of winning this game, an identical percentage as seen ahead of Game 2. This is the second consecutive game in which Money Puck predicts the Flyers as the underdog. The Flyers’ implied win probability, based on the moneyline, is 49.5%. This marks the first time the Money Puck model and the oddsmakers have installed the Flyers as the underdog.

Flyers Win and Under 5 Total Goals (+265, DraftKings)

This series has lived up to its billing as a tough battle of two defensive-minded teams. It’s been a back-and-forth affair with each game seeing the Islanders buzz around the ice consistently, while the Flyers have looked excellent for stretches and disinterested throughout much of the series.

Truthfully, it’s difficult to pick the Flyers to win this game based on their outcomes in six games against the Islanders this season. Philadelphia was 0-2-1 in three regular season matchups and are 1-2-0 in three postseason matchups. Their lone win was came in OT after blowing an early 3-0 lead in Game 2.

Still, the Flyers are the more talented team, it’s just a question of whether they’ll be motivated and consistent enough to tie the series.

From a macro persepective, the Flyers haven’t lost back-to-back games since January 7. They’re 11-0 in games following a loss over that stretch, including 3-0 since the elimination rounds of the Stanley Cup Playoffs commenced. Additionally, they’re also 8-2 in their last ten games against Metropolitan Division opponents.

The under has hit in two of the first three games, with Game 2’s overtime battle standing out as the anomaly. Ten of the Flyer’s past 11 games have gone under the total goals threshold. If you like the Flyers to win, parlay it with the under.

Bets We Like With an Islanders Win

Islanders to Win and Under 5 Goals (+245, DraftKings)

The Islanders and Flyers combined for 8, 7, and 8 total goals in each of their three regular season matchups, blowing past the O/U. In the Islanders’ two wins in this series, the under has hit as the teams combined for just four goals in each game.

New York has won five of six games between the teams this season and 10-of-15 overall going back to February 2017. The Islanders appear to have the Flyers’ number in this series and it’s hard to pick against them, given New York has been the better team in at least six of the nine postseason periods played between the teams, a short Game 2 overtime notwithstanding.

If you think the Islanders will win, get better value by parlaying it with Under 5 goals.

Anders Lee to Score and Islanders to Win (+500, FOX Bet)

In three regular season games against Philadelphia, Anders Lee had just one goal, but he’s now scored in each of the three games in this series. The Flyers have shown a propensity to allow one player to go on a run, typically due to a relentless motor. In their first round series against the Canadiens, the Flyers allowed Nick Suzuki to pot three goals in the final two games. Anders Lee looks like the player who has given and could continue to give the Orange & Black fits.

If you think the Islanders will win, consider taking a flier on Lee to score and New York to win.

Flyers vs. Islanders Prediction

Pick: Until the Flyers prove they’re able to put together a stretch of consistent, highly-motivated play for longer than 20 minutes, we agree with Money Puck and the oddsmakers. Take the Islanders to win. In a separate bet, take the Under 5.5 goals.
