Interestingly, Vance Worley Seems to Be in Town
You may remember Vance Worley, known affectionately around these parts as “Vanimal,” from his stint as a pitcher with the Phillies from 2010-2012.
Worley, now 32 years old, has been out of the big leagues since 2017. A 6.91 ERA and 1.800 WHIP in 24 games with the Marlins was the last we saw of him at the major league level.
On Wednesday, however, a video of Worley throwing in a workout surfaced on Twitter. In it, he’s seen (supposedly) touching 98+ mph.
I’m sitting here watching my Homeboy, Vance Worley workout. my heart is with my Phillies and currently their Bullpen is The Worst in the league. My brotha is hitting 98 bro. With Movement!! Cutter is on 🔥@Phillies Bring him in for a workout! @PhilliesNation @Ike58Reese pic.twitter.com/fX7DmcJABM

I saw the video the other day, and, to be completely honest, I didn’t give it much thought – not even as the Phillies bullpen has imploded to the disastrous effect of a 10.13 ERA.
Fast-forward two days, however, and it would seem Worley is in Philadelphia.

Update:
Vance Worley’s visit to Philadelphia was a “pre-planned” trip. He is, however, throwing high 90s and feeling good and hopes to land with a team after not pitching professionally in 2019. He is 32 years old, turning 33 in September.

That’s not as fun.
I have to say, I didn’t have a possible Twitter-inspired Phillies/Vance Worley reunion on my list of possible bullpen remedies, but, well, as the tweet above noted:
98, bro. With movement. Cutter is on [fire emoji] @ Phillies
Some old-school baseball scout lingo right there. That’s how the pros talk out on the circuit.
Anyway, if Worley is actually in Philly, as his PHL airport geolocation filter suggests, let’s skip the tryout process and subsequent stint in Allentown. Give the man a COVID-19 test, give him a jersey, and let ’em rip.
Check out Vance Worley ripping a @PitchlogicS ball. He has been working hard on his motion and it sure pays off here with this 94.4 mph pitch. @FlatgroundApp @cutternationbsb #cutternation #baseball #pitching #mlb pic.twitter.com/DaMr47Ot46
