Mike Muscala had a cup of coffee with the Sixers, joining as a free agent last year after Nemanja Bjelica reneged on his verbal agreement to sign with the team. After a half-season in Philadelphia, Muscala was shipped to Los Angeles as part of the Tobias Harris trade.

His biggest contribution to the Sixers actually came last night, in the Orlando bubble, when he hit this game-winning three pointer against the Miami Heat:

That shot locked up a first round pick for the Sixers, who owned a top-20 protected selection from Oklahoma City.

This pick went around the block a few times, first traded to Philadelphia in the Ersan Ilyasova/Jerami Grant deal. Then the selection went to Orlando in the trade-up for Anzejs Pasecniks, but was later returned to Philadelphia when the Sixers sent Markelle Fultz down there in the Jonathan Simmons swap.

Got all of that?

All you really need to know is that the Sixers will select in the first round this year. It’s not going to be an amazing pick, something in the twenties, but that’s the same area where Landry Shamet, OG Anunoby, Jarrett Allen, and Pascal Siakam were taken in recent seasons. Best case scenario, they hit on a sleeper.

The Sixers’ natural first round pick was also shipped to LA in the Harris trade, so they were lined up to have zero top-30 picks this year, but thanks to Muscala, they’re back in the mix.
