There was a lot of confusion last month when the City of Philadelphia placed a moratorium on large public events. Officials later clarified, saying that the ban did not apply to sporting events, and that they would be in communication with the Eagles.

Fast forward to today, and Health Commissioner Thomas Farley was asked if he thinks fans will be in the stands for the September 20th home opener against the LA Rams.

Farley:

“All I can say right now is under our current rules they would not be allowed to have fans in the stands. I would say it’s going to be unlikely that that situation will change by September 20th.”

Some audio from Dave Malandra:

At the Inquirer, Laura McCrystal has a blurb with a quote from Mayor Kenney:

Mayor Jim Kenney said that he would strictly follow medical advice when determining whether any sporting events could occur with fans — including for the Army vs. Navy football game currently scheduled for December.

”If the numbers continue to improve and it’s medically safe to do it, yeah. And if it’s not medically safe to do it, no.” Kenney said.

So Kenney is non-committal and Farley thinks nothing will change in the next five weeks, resulting in an empty Linc. If that’s going to be the case, we should get a head start, and have the Phandemic Krew organize a group of hooligans to gather outside of the Linc and throw batteries and piss bags and snowballs at Santa Claus.

Go Birds.
