We interrupt your early morning Eagles pregame ritual with a brief note from last night’s SNL. Jim Carrey, who’s done a wonderful job bringing Joe Biden to life on the sketch comedy show, led off the show’s cold open with some Philly flair:

Carrey is the fourth actor to take on the role over the past couple of years, joining the likes of hosts Woody Harrelson and John Mulaney, as well as long-time cast member Jason Sudeikis. While I’m not an esteemed theatre director like Anthony SanFilippo, indulge me for a moment.

I find Carrey’s take on the former Vice President to be refreshing. While Mulaney’s mannerisms were spot-on, he didn’t look the part. Harrelson’s Biden said outlandish things, but it never felt like the real thing. Carrey’s Biden, while vastly different from the one Sudeikis portrayed, provides some much-needed levity in the show’s political sketches with an unhinged hilarity harkening back to his days as a leading man in The Mask and Ace Ventura.
